Coleraine "Lundy Parade", 2008
Also commemorating the anniversary of the Shutting of the Gates on Thursday night were Killowen Mitchelburne Club in Coleraine. Despite the bitterly cold weather, in excess of 200 Brethren, from Branch Clubs across county Antrim and from the Mitchelburne Parent Club in Londonderry, attended the parade, along with the Ballyrashane Flute Band.
This was the first "Lundy Parade" in Coleraine but attracted a large crowd of spectators along the route. One member on parade afterwards commented that “parading through the town centre was magical with all the Christmas lights on and people coming out of the shops to watch.”
The parade ended as all Shutting of the Gates parades to: with the traditional burning of an effigy of Robert Lundy.
